DIG Operations Sohail Chaudhry said the cases had been registered for marching without permission of the district government.

He said members of the district peace committee and religious scholars were consulted before initiating the legal action.

A statement issued by Lahore police on Monday read, “Shia community leaders, in the wake of the present border situation and threats of possible terrorist activity, have appealed to the mourners, community members and citizens to participate in the main mourning procession to be held on the occasion.”
