Regional office for transgenders inaugurated

Speakers demand equal rights, honour for the community

HARIPUR:

Indus Home Organisation—regional office for transgender persons—was inaugurated in Haripur on Saturday.

A large number of transgender people from the Hazara division participated in the inauguration ceremony.

Saima Shaukat was elected as the vice president of the organization. Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) district and city presidents, including Rubina Shaheen and Sajda Hasrat, respectively and ex-minority member Dr Irfan Nasir, also attended the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the transgender leader said that they were also part of society and they demand nothing but honour.

She added that people have kept various names for them which hurt them. She demanded the government to provide them with opportunities like other people.
