There is a need for equitable development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in rural areas of the country in line with the urban business hubs on the pattern of Chinese model of urban-rural coordinated development, said Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) President SM Naveed. Speaking at a meeting at the chamber on Friday, he told the participants that China had enhanced the prosperity level of its villages by making coordinated urban and rural development. Naveed said that the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) had focused in the past on equitable development of SMEs in the country and the Aik Hunar, Aik Nagar project was launched in this regard. He elaborated that the scheme connected rural handicrafts with fashion designers to add value to the rural handmade products.
