Assam Muslims fear for their future under Indian regime

#MuslimLivesMatter trends on Twitter after yet another police brutality video surfaces

Another video documenting the atrocities of the Indian state against minority Muslims has come to the forefront showing Indian security forces shooting Muslims in the Indian state of Assam during an eviction drive.

The hashtag, 'MuslimLivesMatter', was one of the top trends on Twitter with many calling for accountability and highlighting the high-handed tactics of the right-wing Modi regime against minorities.

Tensions on the border between Assam and Mizoram have been elevated since the deadly July 26 clash between the two Indian states which left six police officers dead and more than 70 injured.

Following this, the Modi-led government released a statement that said 'neutral force' will be deployed in the disputed areas, earlier in August.

However, Indian authorities are under fire once again for the brutal tactics used by their police and their abuse of power that has left the Muslims of the region in fear for their lives.

While some grieve, others shed light on the terrorist ideology of the authorities that has created a regime of 'apartheid' against Muslims in India.

Mizoram was part of Assam until 1972 and became a state in its own right in 1987. While the two states have been wrangling over their border for decades, but such deadly escalations are rarely reported.

Violence against Muslims in India has seen a rise under the Narendra Modi-led Indian government that is pushing for a Hindutva state. In August 2019, Modi's government revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir that was provided under the country's Constitution.

Pakistan has pleaded for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination morally, politically and diplomatically in all international forums. Islamabad maintains that New Delhi is trying to use political censorship to suppress the Kashmiri people for so-called forced and maintained peace and that it will leave no stone unturned to mitigate the sufferings of the subjugated people of the valley.

Following the video of the Muslim man being brutally beaten up by the Indian police in Assam, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry took to his official Twitter handle to once again highlight the plight of Muslims in the neighbouring country.

"After Kashmir, videos of security forces' atrocities on Muslims have surfaced from Assam," tweeted Fawad.
