ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday decided to start the door-to-door voters’ verification campaign.

This came during a meeting of secretaries, special secretaries, and officials of all wings called to review the preparations for next general elections.

Officials briefed the country’s electoral body on matters related to electoral process and its preparation.

According to sources, the commission decided to summon a meeting of heads on every Tuesday to discuss the preparations for 2023 general elections.

Stressing the need for rectifying flaws in the RTS, the ECP decided to overcome the shortcomings that emerged after the 2018 general elections with the collaboration of National Database and Registration Authority.

Moreover, the commission also called for developing “error free” electronic voting machines (EVMs) and directed the technical committee to complete its review.

“We are in the favour of ‘error free’ technology,” sources quoted the ECP as saying.

Officials said that the government has not yet submitted the items requested for EVMs.
