The world underestimates our security forces: Wasim Akram
Cricket fans were heartbroken after it was announced that the much-awaited New Zealand and Pakistan series would not take place since the former pulled out last minute.
New Zealand called off the tour upon a security alert cited by their government and as soon as the news broke out, fans and celebrities took to Twitter to voice their grief.
Humayun Saeed, Farhan Saeed, Faysal Quraishi, Anoushey Ashraf among others attempted to squash rumours of the country being unsafe for sports. This was followed by Wasim Akram and his wife Shaniera Akram, who have joined the myth-busting brigade to extend support to the Pakistan Cricket Board.
The former cricketer tweeted, “I think the world underestimates how powerful our security forces are. Cricket is more than a sport to us and we will do everything in our power to prevent [it] being taken from us again.” He went on, “the world needs to give us a chance to prove that!”
Activist Shaniera also assured her followers on the micro-blogging site, “There is no place in the world I feel safer than in Pakistan.”
But as much as Pakistanis remain disappointed by New Zealand, a cricket team aborting its visit to Pakistan is nothing new. Singer Asim Azhar felt the same. “We’re a nation used to bouncing back,” he remarked. “Pakistan is safe and always will be. We’ll still open-heartedly welcome New Zealand or any other nation that thinks otherwise because that's who we are,” added the Soneya crooner.
Actor and host Anoushey Ashraf reinstated how we’ve seen worst while she reassured cricket fans that good things were on their way. She also gace Wasim a shout out for “doing his best to bring cricket back to Pakistan.”
Nevertheless, here's hoping some misunderstanding can be cleared out so cricketers from around the world can make their way to Pakistan again!
