Veteran comedian Umer Sharif has been issued a US visa on Thursday, PPP leader Murtaza Wahab announced. The renowned artist will be flown to the States for treatment soon.

Taking to Twitter, Wahab had earlier shared, "Happy to inform you that visa interviews of Omer Sharif Sahab's family have taken place today [Thursday]. Very grateful to the US consulate for exempting the presence of Omer Bhai for issuance of visa. Let us all continue to pray for the good health of one of the greatest comedians of the subcontinent."

An hour later, he shared that the visa has been issued. "Even happier to inform you that the visa has been issued just now. Thank you to the team at US Consulate for the support extended."

Sharif, who has been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the metropolis, was deemed fit to fly abroad for further treatment on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government approved the release of Rs40 million for Sharif's treatment. The funds are to be used to cover the expense of an air ambulance and other related costs for Sharif's treatment abroad, stated the order issued by the provincial finance department, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune.

"We are committed to bearing the expenses of Umer Sharif Sahib's treatment expenditures," said Sindh government spokesperson, Wahab, speaking to the publication. He confirmed that the funds have been released and transferred to the family.
