PHC seals 4 hospitals, 92 quack centres

In its major anti-quackery actions during the last week, the Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has sealed four hospitals and 92 backstreet treatment centres.

The closed down hospitals – Hammad Children and General Hospital, Jannat Medical and Surgical, Ali City Hospital and Sarim Surgical Hospital – were functional in district Rahim Yar Khan in contravention to various rules and regulations of the PHC.

On the other hand, a total of 704 raids were conducted in 12 districts. Two major anti-quackery actions were carried out in Muzaffargarh and Rawalpindi districts to seal 12 and 11 centres of quacks respectively.

Also, as many as each backstreet treatment centre were shuttered in Okara and Chiniot, Multan 8, seven each in Gujrat and Chakwal, Pakpattan six, five each in Lahore and Jhang, while four each in Attock and Rajanpur.

In Lahore, Tahir Poly Clinic, Chand Medical Store and Clinic, Rasool Free Dispensary, Biotech Lahore Lab Collection Centre and Shahid Clinic were closed down.

Moreover, the PHC enforcement teams will continue surveillance of 413 healthcare establishments, while as per the data, another 156 centres of quacks have been converted into other businesses.
