Two PTI candidates booked over fireworks

The ticket holders had jointly organised a public rally in the district.

RAWALPINDI:

The Westridge police on Saturday registered a case against five persons including two Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket-holders, contesting cantonment board elections, for setting off fireworks.

The police said a case has been registered against PTI candidates Abdul Kareem and Anjum Shehzad who are contesting the cantonment board elections. A case has also been registered against three others, Saad, Ali and Zubair.

The PTI ticket holders, who are contesting in Ward-8 and Ward-1 had jointly organised a public rally in Ward-2 where fireworks were used to welcome the incoming rallies.

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi police have formulated a security plan for conducting cantonment board elections. There will be a complete ban on the display of arms while more than 3,000 police personnel will be deployed on security duty. The authorities have set up 582 polling stations in Rawalpindi.

The police personnel will be deployed on duty before the polling process begins. Security squads will also patrol the city during polling hours.

The use of loudspeakers is completely banned. In view of the security situation in the country, the police will closely monitor the activities of suspicious elements. The SSP (operation) said that implementation of the code of conduct and rules and regulations issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will be ensured.
