Workshop on women’s protection held
A workshop on women’s protection was organised by Shirkat Gah in collaboration with the UN on Monday.
Punjab Minister for Social Welfare Syed Yawar Abbas Bukhari represented the provincial government, while Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Culture Shaukat Yousafzai and Deputy Speaker Mahmood Jan represented K-Pat the first ‘learning exchange’ workshop.
Female MPAs and other prominent women were also present. In his welcome address, the provincial social welfare minister said that gender specialists would be appointed in Punjab on the lines of K-P. After Multan, anti-violence centres for women will be set up in Lahore and Rawalpindi.

He said that 6,927 cases had been reported in the violence against women centre in Multan since 2017.
“Steps are being taken to provide all facilities to women under one roof at the VAWC,” the minister added. He said that for the first time in Punjab, shelter homes will be set up for the transgender community to help make them productive members of society. The K-P assembly deputy speaker said the assembly had carried out record legislation about women.
