Okara prepares for cantonment elections
Cantonment board elections are being held across the country on September 12 and preparations for the contest are also under way in full swing in Okara Cantt.
The Election Commission has announced the names of the candidates and the number of polling stations and voters. A security plan has been finalised to keep the election peaceful and fair.
A large number of independent, PML-N, PTI, PML-Q and other parties’ candidates are participating in the cantonment board elections.
The cantonment includes some villages around Okara and the civilian populated area and officers’ colony. Five wards have been formed for the cantonment board elections and a number of candidates are contesting in each ward.

DPO Faisal Shehzad told The Express Tribune, “We have finalised the security plan in which the armed forces have also been kept on alert.”
In ward number one, there are six independent candidates along with nominees of PPP, Jamaat-e-Islami and PTI.
In ward number two, four independent candidates and those from PTI and Barabri Party are participating in it. In ward number three, there are two independent candidates and one of PML-N. There is no PTI candidate in the ward.
