Commuters faced traffic congestion on Friday in Karachi and there were reports of power outages from some areas after the city experienced intermittent spells of rainfall.

In its power update, the port city's electric utility, K-Electric, claimed that the majority of areas were receiving uninterrupted power supply. "Power supply is ongoing through 1,733 of 1,900 feeders."

The utility added that KE teams were "monitoring the situation".

However, KE stated that supply to areas with high theft rates or line losses may be shut down for "emergency reasons".

It added that power supply was restored to Orangi Yaqoobabad, DHA Phase 6, Nazimabad block 3 and 5, Korangi Sector 34-1 and other areas.

There were also reports of traffic congestion from the main arteries of the city after the rain spells. A number of bikers slipped and traffic was generally moving slower on Shaheed-e-Millat, Shahrae Faisal and other main roads.

The Met Department had earlier predicted a fresh spell of monsoon showers in the port city from the end of August till around September 5.
