NEPRA to hear power tariff hike plea today

ISLAMABAD:

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will take up on Wednesday (today) a plea moved by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for Rs1.47 increase in the power tariff on account of fuel adjustment charges.

According to the CPPA, a total of 15.21 billion units of electricity were generated in the month of July. It added that 29.94% of the total electricity was generated from water resources, 15.29% from coal and 10.28% from furnace oil.

In addition, the CPPA added, 8.68% of electricity was generated from domestic gas, while 20.01% from imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) and 10.59% from nuclear sources. During the period, it added, the cost of electricity generated from furnace oil was Rs12.06 per unit.

According to the CPPA, the reference fuel cost for July was Rs5.27 per unit, while the production cost of electricity was Rs6.74 paisa per unit. The NEPRA will hear the petition on Wednesday (today) and will take its decision in this regard.
