Festival highlights population welfare, need for Covid SOPs in Jhelum
A cultural festival was organised by district population welfare with the assistance of UNFPA the other day. Jhelum Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rao Pervez Akhtar was the chief guest of the programme.
The population department’s theatre team highlighted the factors of the rapidly growing population through theatrical performance.
The children performed tableaus and songs and delivered speeches.
While addressing the ceremony, District Population Welfare Officer Babar Zaheer said the event focuses on creating awareness in people regarding the growing population as well as its healthy activities.
He said different departments including population welfare, health, industry, social welfare, livestock, agriculture, literacy, Rescue 1122, and others set up their stalls for food, henna, books, handicrafts, etc in the cultural event.
The Jhelum DC commended the population department on the organisation of the festival and emphasised promoting healthy activities in society.
He urged participants to reaffirm their commitment to vaccination and all other precautionary measures for the eradication of the coronavirus pandemic.
In his address, the health department Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wasim Iqbal said his department set up a special vaccination stall in the festival to administer vaccines which was a prerequisite for entrance. He said hand sanitisers and masks were also provided to participants.
At the end of the cultural festival, the special guest presented honorary shields to the heads and representatives of all departments.
