KARACHI:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Friday arrived in Karachi on a three-day visit to attend an anti-government power show scheduled to be held on August 29 at Bagh-e-Jinnah.

In the wake of the Mehran Town tragedy which left at least 16 people dead, the PML-N leader had barred his party leaders and workers from according him a welcome upon his arrival. Nonetheless, a large number of workers were seen outside the airport to receive him.

Shehbaz will visit the residence of former president late Mamnoon Hussain as well as the family of late Mumtaz Bhutto on Saturday to offer condolences.

The PML-N chief will meet political and business personalities and preside over a meeting of PML-N Sindh to solve organisational issues and the resignation of Miftah Ismail.

The reason for the party chief’s early arrival, however, is allegedly tied to a rift among leaders of PML-N’s Sindh chapter, which sources privy to the matter claim Shehbaz hopes to resolve before the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) flexes its political muscle on Saturday.

According to PML-N Sindh spokesperson, Shehbaz is also scheduled to meet with the financial capital’s business community on the morning of the power show.
