Three held for stealing Rs2m from bank

Police on Monday claimed to have arrested three suspects involved in stealing Rs 2 million from a private bank in Bohri Bazar area of Saddar. The police also recovered a vehicle, purchased with the stolen money, from their possession.

Police said one of their accomplices is still at large and efforts are being made for his arrest. The arrested suspects had purchased two cars, three motorcycles and one rickshaw from the stolen money. According to police investigators, four suspects had stolen Rs2 million from the counter of a bank branch in Bohri Bazaar when the bank staff deputed at the counter was collecting money from other counters to pay Rs4.5 million to one of its account holders.

A case had been registered at Preedy police station and police had launched investigation and search of suspects after obtaining CCTV footage installed inside the bank. Meanwhile, the police received another footage of a similar incident which took place in the Bilal Colony police area and the suspects were matched.

The police obtained the court record of the same case and with the help of this record as well as the call data records, rounded up the suspects including Abdul Hussain, Shehzad and Jaffer Ali. Police said the arrested accused Abdul Hussain can also be seen in the CCTV footage obtained form Bilal Colony area. The arrested suspects during investigation admitted that they purchased two cars, three motorcycles and one rickshaw from the money they had stolen from the bank.

The police have recovered one vehicle allegedly purchased from the stolen money and narcotics from the possession of the suspects while one of their accomplices is absconding. Police said the absconder hold criminal record and has previously been jailed several times. Abdul Hussain is booked in a case registered at Bilal Colony police station, Shehzad at Artillery Maidan and SITE Industrial Area and Jaffer Ali at Sharafi Goth, Airport and Khokhrapar police stations. The police, after registering cases against the suspects, have launched investigation.

NCP Otems recovered

Police have arrested a suspect and seized non-customs paid (NCP) articles worth millions of rupees from his possession.

Sources said, the police while successfully acting on a tipoff in Metroville SITE area foiled an attempt to smuggle non-customs paid items and seized a truck and recovered 22,000kg of betel nut and 6,000kg dry fruits worth millions of rupees.

The police have registered a case against accused Syed Ali son of Abdul Ghaffar. The recovered smuggled goods shall be handed over to the customs department
