Railway police foiled a bid to smuggle Rs9.4 million worth of counterfeit currency and chemicals used in their production after arresting four suspects.
Railway Police Lahore Division SP Malik Muhammad Atiq said the smuggling of fake currency notes worth Rs9.4 million and chemicals used in them through the Shah Hussain Express from Karachi to Lahore had been foiled.
He said Lahore Station House Officer (SHO) Roy Faisal and Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ashraf Ali had arrested four members of the gang that were involved in the smuggling bid.
The detained suspects were identified as Ikram Gulzar, Salamat Gulzar, Umar Hayat and Latifullah.

The bags of the suspects were searched and the fake currency notes and chemicals were seized. A case has also been registered against them.
The official said that the certificates of appreciation would be issued to the personnel who were involved in the arrest and seizure.
He said that further investigation into the case was also under way against the group involved in producing counterfeit currency, which was likely to lead to further revelations.
