Pakistan on way to vaccinate ‘80m people till Dec’

Parliamentary secretary says almost 80m people will receive doses by year end

ISLAMABAD:

Parliamentary Secretary for National Health Services Dr Nausheen Hamid on Sunday said that Pakistan was on its way to vaccinate almost 80 million of the country against the novel coronavirus till the end of December 2021.

“Our target was to vaccinate 70 million Pakistanis by the end of this year that is now increased to 80 million. With the support of people, we will soon achieve this target,” she said while talking to PTV.

The parliamentary secretary expressed satisfaction at the rising speed of the vaccination drive and stressed that it was important to carry this momentum forward.

She stressed that every segment of society has to play its role in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic and vowed to increase the pace of the vaccinations in the coming days.

Nausheen appealed to the public to participate in the vaccination drive as it was the only way to lift all the Covid-induced restrictions in the country.

Replying to a query, she said that after Islamabad and Punjab, the Sindh Health Department had also decided to set up several mobile vaccination centres in the city to encourage more and more people to get inoculated against Covid-19.

She said that almost 28% of mobile units taking an active part in the ongoing Covid vaccination drive, adding that mobile vaccination services had made life easier for all citizens.

To another query, she said the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) played a “pivotal role” in containing Covid-19. “The NCOC proved its credibility and importance by guiding the nation and made the nation proud of it,” she added.

Talking about paramedical staff training, she said that Pakistan with the collaboration of the Chinese government had conducted various training for paramedical staff on Covid-related vaccination drives.
