Candidates contesting cantonment boards’ polls start submitting party tickets to ROs

RAWALPINDI:

Candidates contesting cantonment boards’ elections have started submitting party tickets to returning officers for the allotment of election symbols.

At least 20 seats of Rawalpindi and Chaklala cantonment boards are up for the grab in the upcoming election.

Candidates of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, the Pakistan People’s Party, the Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan Muslim League-Q submitted party tickets to returning officers to get the election symbols, however, candidates of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz could not submit their tickets to get the election symbols.

The PTI has issued tickets to 20 candidates for 20 Wards, the JI and the PPP to 13 each and the PML-Q has issued tickets for six candidates.

However, tough competition is expected between the PML-N and PTI candidates. Some big wigs of cantonment politics or their kith and kins are in the field this time around. The last list of candidates for election symbols will be issued on August 13. Candidates and supporters have started full-fledged election campaigning for the party-based cantonment elections to be held on Sept 12.
