Deepika 'dropped' from SLB's next for demanding the same pay as Ranveer

Actor reportedly ‘refused’ to work for lesser pay than her husband's in 'Baiju Bawra'

As maverick filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali celebrates clocking 25 years in Bollywood, his upcoming film Baiju Bawra makes headlines for being snubbed by Deepika Padukone.

That’s right! While SLB’s next was among the most discussed B-town projects of the year, provided that it promised to reunite Deepika and Ranveer Singh on screen, it seems that that will not be happening now, allegedly over matters of pay parity.

It was just a couple of months ago that news of SLB approaching Deepika to star alongside Ranveer in the film made fans swoon with happiness. However, now if reports are to be trusted, Deepika has dropped out of the project after being refused the same pay as her husband’s.

Speaking about the matter, The Daily Guardian quoted an ‘insider’ as saying, “Apparently, Deepika wanted the same remuneration as her husband, not a penny more, not a penny less.” They added, “In a way, it works out for the better. Four Ranveer – Deepika films in a row from Sanjay Leela Bhansali would have been excessive, don’t you think?”

SLB has previously cast both Ranveer and Deepika in Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat.

Nevertheless, instead of accepting or denying the reports, Deepika took to her Instagram Stories this morning to share a video marking ‘25 years of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’. She also penned an elaborate note for her presumably favourite filmmaker to thank him for granting her so much screen space in such a short amount of time.

She wrote, “9th November 2007. My debut film Om Shanti Om was pitted against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya. And as grateful as I was (And I still am...I cannot think of another female actor who has been launched in the same manner as I was), I also remember thinking to myself at the time, that I would never be good enough...to be a Sanjay Leela Bhansali muse.” She added, “What ensued in the years that followed was nothing short of an ‘iconic partnership’ I believe. And together we’ve created ‘iconic characters’. Characters that have been etched in the minds and hearts of people forever!”
