Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the murder of a religious scholar Mufti Nida Muhammad. Prayer leader Mufti Nida Muhammad,40, was intercepted by armed riders seconds after he stepped out of his Jama Masjid Al Aziz in Maula Goth within the remit of the Gulshan-eMaymar police station.

According to West district SSP Suhai Aziz Talpur, police arrested the prime suspect identified as Umair Rasool for the murder of Mufti Nida. She said that as per investigation the suspect and his accomplices used to sodimise boys in the building of a school at night. On July 20, Mufti Nida had warned the accused to refrain from the heinous act and had also told them that he would inform the police if they do not stop this practice.

However, Suhai said, that night, the suspects followed Mufti Nida and shot him dead outside the mosque making it look like an incident of mugging. Gulshan-e-Maymar Police Station SHO, with the help of West District technical team and informants, arrested the prime suspect Umair Rasool. During interrogation, the accused said that he and his accomplices killed Mufti Nida fearing that he would tell the police and get them arrested for child abuse. SSP Suhai said police are conducting raids to arrest rest of the suspects.
