Police say honour killing cannot be ruled out

RAWALPINDI:

The Saddar Bairooni police on Thursday grilled family members of a woman who was found murdered near her house in Tarbela Colony of Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

Police sources said that 22-year-old Nasreen was found dead at the family’s cattle pen situated adjacent to her house. On Thursday, the Saddar Bairooni police registered a murder case against unidentified suspects on a complaint of the slain woman’s brother, Syed Abrar Shah, a resident of Mansehra.

According to the complainant, he received a call around 11:30 am on August 4 that his sister had been murdered in the cattle pen. The complainant told the police that once he reached the crime scene, he found his sister murdered.

After receiving the complaint, the police registered a murder case against unidentified suspects. The police also carried out the autopsy of the body at the district headquarters hospital before handing it over to the family.

Police sources said that the murder case was being investigated from different angles and honour killing could not be ruled out.

A police official privy to the investigation maintained that the statements of the slain woman’s mother and sisters had been recorded. He added that the investigation of the murder case has been handed over to the homicide investigation unit to further probe the matter.

The police official further said that no houses exist at a certain distance of the family and no outsider had been spotted near the cattle pen or the house on the day the murder happened.
