President Alvi pays tribute to police on Martyrs Day

Says police acts as bulwark against criminals, calling for use of modern technology to counter sophisticated crimes

ISLAMABAD:

While lauding the sacrifices of the civilian and armed forces of Pakistan in the war on terror, President Dr Arif Alvi cautioned that the next few months could be tense in the context of security in the region due to the emerging situation on the western border of Pakistan.

The president was addressing a ceremony held in the federal capital to commemorate the sacrifices of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police on Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Police on Wednesday.

He maintained that India was sabotaging peace in Pakistan as they never wanted us to move towards progress and prosperity. He added that India had also been involved in the Lahore terrorist blast case.

The president maintained that Pakistan has proven to the world that it is a peace-loving country that wants stability in the region. He said that the security forces of Pakistan and the nation had rendered unmatched sacrifices in the war on terror. About 70,000 precious lives had been lost in that war.

“Hats off to the civilian and armed forces of Pakistan who had been successful in defeating the menace. No country in the world succeeded in this way even a superpower could not control it after spending a whopping amount of about 2$trillion in Afghanistan,” he added.

Dr Alvi opined that no nation could force its decision on another nation. He said that he always felt immensely proud over the spirit of the nation and the families of martyrs who were ready to offer more sacrifices for the country if the occasion arose.

The police force acts as a bulwark against criminals, the president stated and stressed the utilisation of modern technological gadgets to counter sophisticated crimes.

The president further said that the martyred security personnel had been the greatest benefactors of the nation. He maintained that Pakistan is moving towards development and cited prudent decisions taken by the present government under the guidance of Prime Minister Imran Khan, especially during the Covid pandemic.

He added that Rs200 billion was rolled out under the Ehsaas programme to support the underserved segments of society.

The president said the nation took a unanimous decision during the pandemic and once a nation takes collective decisions, no one can defeat it.

Also speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said that Pakistan was facing a hybrid war launched by India and expressed confidence in the security forces.

Inspector General of Police Qazi Jamilur Rehman highlighted the steps taken for the welfare of the bereaved families of martyred cops. A documentary, tableau and a song were also presented to pay tribute to the martyred police personnel.
