LAHORE:

Pakistani veteran star Mustafa Qureshi and his wife Rubina Qureshi have tested positive for Covid-19, a source confirmed to The Express Tribune. As the country finds itself battling a drastic increase in coronavirus cases, following the outbreak of the highly contagious Delta variant, actors like Adnan Siddiqui have also fallen prey to the deadly virus.

Mustafa and Rubina are currently in isolation. According to their family, the couple is in stable condition and will continue to remain in quarantine. Mustafa, a legendary star, has worked in popular films such as Maula Jatt and has a career spanning several decades. The actor's peers have been praying for his wellbeing too.

There is no denying that Mustafa is one of the most prolific stars in the Pakistani film industry. His dialogue delivery and stronghold on the characters he essays have given him much-deserved exposure internationally.

Pakistan recorded at least 4,950 new Covid-19 cases during the last 24-hour period – the highest since April. In the past day, at least 65 people have succumbed to the deadly disease. The Delta variant of Covid-19 is a warning to the world to suppress the virus quickly before it mutates again into something even worse, the WHO said on Friday.

The highly-transmissible variant was first detected in India. It has now surfaced in 132 territories and is partly to blame for an 80% rise in coronavirus deaths in Africa over the past four weeks, the World Health Organisation said.
