LAHORE:

Ethiopia is the second largest country in Africa in terms of population and there are numerous business opportunities in agriculture, pharmaceutical, information technology and irrigation sectors, said Pakistan's Ambassador to Ethiopia Shozab Abbas.

Speaking at a seminar titled "Exporting Products from Pakistan to African Countries" on Friday, he was of the view that motorcycles and rickshaws of Pakistan could be exported to Ethiopia.

"In addition, Ethiopia produces a lot of tea and coffee, hence we can import these two commodities as well as pulses from the African nation," he said.

The envoy underlined the need for focusing on the marketing of Pakistani products. He announced that flights between Ethiopia and Pakistan would resume immediately after the eradication of Covid-19.

On the occasion, Ambassador of Pakistan to Niger Ahmed Ali Sirohey and Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Lahore Coordinator Muhammad Ali Mian stressed that there was a huge scope for promoting bilateral trade in many sectors.

According to them, the two countries can collaborate in the fields of pharmaceutical, healthcare, agriculture, irrigation, tractors, allied machinery, agricultural seeds, fertilisers and transport.

FPCCI's Pakistan-Africa Business Council Chairman Chaudhry Zafar Mahmood gave a detailed briefing to seminar participants on the business registration process in Pakistan and outlined the steps and necessary documents required for exporting products from Pakistan to the African economies.

Mahmood revealed that Pakistani merchandise could be exported to most African countries without certification. He announced that a business delegation of the FPCCI was set to visit Ethiopia and Niger next month.

"The delegation will attend the Pakistan-Niger Business Conference," he said.

Rashid Saeed, an expert in export procedures, spoke about the documentation process for export of goods from Pakistan to other countries.
