Several candidates on Tuesday filed nomination papers for the 20 general seats of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) and the Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB). Nominations are being accepted from candidates for the elections scheduled for September 12.
In RCB and CCB, it will be a contest between the Pakistan Muslim Leagues-Nawaz (PML-N) the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), the Jamaat-e-Islami and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). The PML-N has been dominating the politics of both boards for the last 28 years.
The process of submitting nomination papers started on Monday and will continue till Thursday (tomorrow). The candidates have been given separates dates for scrutiny of nomination papers by the returning officers.
RCB former vice president, four-time member of the board and PML-N leader Hafiz Hussain Ahmad Malik reached the office of the Military State Officer riding in a chariot drawn by horses and along with a large number of his supporters who kept chanting slogans in his support.

The returning officer received the nomination papers from the PML-N leader and summoned him on July 31 for scrutiny.
Most candidates submitted their nomination papers along with their lawyers. The majority of candidates submitted their nomination papers for Ward-I to Ward-V to the returning officer and Cantonment Executive Officer Omar Farooq Ali Malik while candidates of Ward-VI to Ward-X submitted their nomination papers to the Military State Officer.
Nomination papers for CCB for Ward-I to Ward-V are being submitted to Cantonment Executive Officer Wasim Shahid and those of the Ward-VI to Ward-X to Additional Cantonment Executive Officer Umar Hayat Khan.
According to the election schedule, the list of candidates will be displayed on July 30, the returning officers will scrutinise the nomination papers from July 31 to August 3.
Appeals can be filed against the acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers from August 4 to 7. The appellate authority will adjudicate the appeals on August 10 while the list of candidates will be released on August 11.
The nomination process will be completed on August 12 and candidates will be allotted election symbols with the final list on August 13.
