Remand of accused in RR scam extended
A local court on Saturday extended the physical remand of former commissioner of Rawalpindi Capt (retd) Muhammad Mahmood and land acquisition collector Abbas Tabish for another four days in the Rawalpindi Ring Road scam.
Judicial Magistrate Yousaf Abdur Rehman conducted the proceedings of the case after the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab team produced the accused before the court on the expiry of their five-day physical remand.
An ACE prosecutor submitted a report in the court and said that investigation into the scam was underway from the accused. He said that further physical remand of the accused was required for the investigation of the land record.

However, a counsel for the accused opposed the further physical remand plea. The court, after hearing the arguments of both parties, extended the physical remand of the accused for four days.
The Punjab ACE has registered a case against the accused for their alleged involvement in the Ring Road scam based on a detailed inquiry report. It was alleged that the accused were guilty of corruption and they misused their authority. According to the inquiry report, they illegally changed the design of the project to add new interchanges and the length of the road was increased from 22 kilometres to 68 kilometres to benefit various private housing projects.
