Ali Gul Pir urges people to treat sacrificial animals with respect

The comedian took to Instagram to speak about cruel practices during Eid-ul-Azha

Prompted by the carelessness with which sacrificial animals are treated before and after slaughter during Eid-ul-Azha, comedian Ali Gul Pir took to social media to have a conversation about best practices during this time of year. Pir started off his message by posting a graphic image of slaughtered animals left out on the street in a pool of blood with their organs piled up on the side. Sharing the image to his Instagram stories, he wrote, “Shame how we treat animals and what a mess we create.”

He urged people to be kind towards their sacrificial animals, asking them to steer clear of behaviours such as sharpening knives in front of the animals before slaughter.  He wrote, “When the Prophet (PBUH) saw a man sharpening his knife in the presence of the animal destined for slaughter, he said, 'Do you intend inflicting death on the animal twice — once by sharpening the knife within its sight and once by cutting its throat?’”

"Sharpening knives? We not only do that, we kill others in front of them,” continued Pir. “If you can afford to buy goats and cows then you can dispose off their guts in a hygienic way.”

The comedian also shared a hassle-free way for people to engage in sacrifice on Eid through online qurbani. “Online qurbani is a healthy and hygienic way if you can’t care for the animal properly,” he wrote.
