You don’t want to live with the regret of losing a loved one to reckless driving: Shaniera Akram
Activist and wife of former ace cricketer Wasim Akram, Shaniera Akram, recently made headlines after she called out a local celebrity couple for reckless driving. After chastising Minal Khan and her fiance Ahsan Mohsin Ikram for not taking road safety measures seriously, she has once again taken to Instagram to elaborate on her stance.
She wrote on her Instagram stories, “Ok, I’m going to say this for those few people who still think they don’t need a seatbelt on because a) They are driving just a short distance and/or b) they are only driving slowly. It doesn’t matter what distance you are travelling or how fast you are going because all it takes is one car to hit your car and your life or your loved one’s life could be over. Worst case scenario is you survive but your head and back were so severely damaged when you hit the dashboard because you were not restrained by a safety belt, that you will be living the rest of your life being fed through a straw!”
“And you will have to live with the fact that you had the chance to put your belt on but you didn’t! I know it sounds harsh, but I have to be to get through to you! If by posting this message, I’ve changed just one person’s mind and convinced them to now wear a seatbelt, then in my mind, it was worth it as I may have just saved your life!” she concluded.
Shaniera also took to Twitter to write, “Fair enough, you don’t think you need to wear a seatbelt, that’s fine, that’s your life you’re risking! But what’s worse than losing your life in a car accident? Living the rest of your life, every day, regretting your decision to not put a seatbelt on your child!”
Earlier this week, Minal and Ahsan took to the road for a monsoon drive but Shaniera did not take their lack of road safety measures lightly. In a video posted to Instagram by the actor, Minal can be seen sitting in the passenger seat of a car, singing and enjoying the rain with no seatbelt in sight, while Mohsin is driving while recording on his phone.
Shaniera wrote on social media in response, “Come on guys, you’re famous and have millions of followers! Is it too hard to be a little more responsible? Put your seatbelt on and eyes on the road!”
