Lack of etiquette or too cool? Priyanka's snub to William, Kate divides Twitter

Priyanka Chopra and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle are close friends. From attending the Royal wedding to standing up for Meghan against racism and sexism, the former Miss World has proved, time and again, how much she values their bond. But a recent incident has made it even clearer.

It all happened when Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived at the Wimbledon final last week. Also in attendance was PC. When the Royals walked in to take their seats in the Royal Box, the audience applauded as per custom. The Baywatch actor, however, was too busy fixing her dress to pay attention and gave an apparent cold shoulder to the Duke and Duchess.

Many speculated this was a deliberate move and a subtle show of support for Meghan, who has been at odds with the rest of the Royal family since last year. Social media users were quick to point it out and some lauded PC for putting her friend first. "It's Priyanka Chopra not applauding the Prince's arrival," a user said.

"Everything else aside, Priyanka Chopra is a very loyal friend to Meghan Markle," said one more user.

Another wrote, "Great way of throwing shade at the colonisers. Priyanka definitely used that scarf moment in a professional manner!" read one more tweet.

"Peak desi girl. Come and say hi to me, I ain't getting up," quipped another.

Others, however, thought it was a childish move. “Huh! Didn’t know Priyanka Chopra still was in kindergarten. Pathetic. She can never get near their level."

Another wrote, "She was fine with applauding Modi who's supervising the lynching of minorities in India?"

One fan penned, "It’s actually just manners and etiquette, once again proving that money does not breed class. If she was taking a stand, she should not have sat in the Royal Box."

In a 2019 interview with The Sunday Times, PC had addressed the negativity surrounding Meghan since she married into the Royals. According to the Bollywood actor, much of the hate is due to Meghan’s biracial heritage.
