10 die in rain-related incidents in K-P

PDMA establishes control rooms to facilitate quick response

PESHAWAR:

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a detailed report about the losses in recent downpour across the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) province, saying that 10 people were killed in roof collapse and other incidents.

As per the report, four people were killed in a landslide incident in Lower Kohistan. Two children were killed in Lower Dir and one was critically injured. Similarly, two people were killed in a wall collapse incident in Manshera district of K-P.

“In total 10 people were killed and ten houses were damaged,” says the report, adding that Secretary Relief and Rehabilitation visited the calamity hit areas in Abbotabad to inspect the extent of damages. He directed the local administration to speed up the rescue efforts and provide all facilities to the victim families in the area.

By the same token Director General (DG) PDMA visited Shangla to inspect the rehabilitation efforts there. He directed the local administration to precisely assess the damages and send the full report to the PDMA so that these losses could be compensated.

He also directed the local administration to open the closed roads as soon as possible by providing heavy and light machinery for the purpose.

Talking on the occasion PDMA DG said that they had named their representatives in 11 districts to ensure quick response namely Noswhera, Swat, Abbotabad, Charsadda, DI Khan, Shangla, Dir Upper, Dir Lower, Chitral Upper, Chitral Lower and Peshawar.

Talking to The Express Tribune an official of the PDMA said that a control room had been established which was working round the clock and people could reach them on the helpline 1700 any time to report any calamity.

“It has been ensured to send a rescue team to the area as soon as possible and all the district administrations have also been alerted to make sure that tents are provided to the victim families along with other necessities after an incident,” he said, adding that the situation was completely under control.
