WhatsApp is launching self-erasing messages and media for iOS after releasing the feature on Android in June, according to WABetaInfo.

The beta version 2.21.140.9 is available on Testflight. The update will allow users to send message, photos and videos that automatically self-destruct after being viewed. Users will be able to see a timer icon.

The sender will be notified when the media has been viewed by the recipient. However, users can take screenshots without the sender being notified. Moreover, Users can’t stop the sender being notified once the media has been viewed reports WABetaInfo.

WhatsApp is hoping to improve the quality and privacy of conversations on the app as users contemplate jumping to rival applications. WhatsApp lost millions of followers after announcing its new terms of services which allowed parent company Facebook and its divisions to collect user data, including phone numbers and location.

While WhatsApp stalled to launch the update due to use backlash, it later decided to go ahead with the new privacy policy. However, users are encouraged to read it at “their own pace” and WhatsApp will also display a banner providing additional information.
