Fire turns used-clothes warehouse to ashes

Imported used clothes and shoes worth millions of rupees turned to ashes in an inferno at a warehouse the Bangash Colony late on Friday night.

The inventory belonged to a group of importers of used clothing who sell the merchandise to shops and bazaars in the city, officials said.

According to Chief Fire Officer Tauheedur Rehman, the firefighting teams arrived on the spot soon after receiving the complaint.

The flames had engulfed the entire structure of the warehouse and bushes around it, by the time the firefighting operation was launched, said Rehman.

He said that the fire was completely doused after a four-hour long struggle and eight fire tenders participated in the operation.

In the meantime, heavy-worth plastic grains were burned to ash when a fire erupted in a plastic goods factory in Ayub Goth, New Karachi Industrial Area.

The firefighting teams arrived with a fire tender and launched the operation to put the fire out.
