Palestinian envoy calls for deepening trade ties

Stresses need for promoting business linkages between private sectors of two sides

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan and Palestine should focus on developing bilateral trade to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes and create new opportunities of progress and prosperity for the people of both nations, said Ambassador of Palestine Ahmed Ameen Rabaie.

In a meeting with Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan on Friday, the envoy urged both countries to promote business linkages between their respective private sectors to explore all untapped areas of mutual cooperation.

“Both countries should deepen cooperation in diverse areas including economy, agriculture, banking, healthcare, education, social and culture,” he said.

He appreciated the government and people of Pakistan for exhibiting strong support to Palestine during the Gaza crisis.

He also thanked the chamber for offering a significant donation to the Palestinians who suffered during the recent aggression.

Speaking on the occasion, ICCI President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan said that Pakistan had a special sentiment for Palestine.

“We want to see Palestine emerge as a strong economy in its region,” he said. “We are already in touch with the Palestinian Business Association (PBA) to encourage and promote direct contacts between entrepreneurs of the two countries to develop strong commercial and industrial cooperation.”

He stressed that the ICCI and the PBA intended to work side by side to promote exchange of trade delegations, which would help in tapping new avenues to enhance trade, joint ventures and investment between the two countries.

He added that both trade bodies would make efforts to organise roundtable conferences and seminars for business communities of the two countries and encourage establishment of business partnerships in the areas of interest.

The two sides discussed a wide range of topics to strengthen trade and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Palestine.

ICCI Senior Vice President Fatma Azim and Vice President Abdul Rehman Khan stressed the need for deepening bilateral trade and economic relations between Pakistan and Palestine as the two nations possessed excellent potential to cooperate with each other.
