KARACHI:

Sindh Police claimed to have killed two alleged robbers and arrested one in injured condition after a hot chase and shootout that ended on the U-turn near Malir 15 on main Sharae Faisal in the early hours of Monday.

Police recovered automatic weapons and ammunition from the suspects who were of Afghan origin.

"The Ferozabad police on Monday killed two robbers traveling in a car and caught one in an injured condition, while two others managed to escape during an alleged police encounter near Anwar Baloch Hotel in Malir 15," Ferozabad police station SHO Inspector Aurangzed Khattak said.

Khattak told The Express Tribune that a mobile squad of Ferozabad police signalled five people going in a car to stop for checking in the PECHS area during patrol, however, they opened fire at the police and sped away towards Shahrahe Faisal.

The mobile squad sending message on the central wireless system of the department started the chase to catch the suspects who were soon out of the Ferozabad police's jurisdiction. Seeing the police hot on their tail, the suspects took their guns from the windows and started shooting.

Owing to early morning, the main thoroughfare of the city was empty, otherwise collateral damage was imminent as bullets flew in all directions.

The cops in mobile tried to hit the car but kept missing owing to the distance. The alleged robbers could have made good their escape but they made the mistake of taking a U-turn, and their car hit the kerb and got stalled.

Within seconds the police besieged the suspects after they took U-turn from infront of Anwar Baloch hotel in Malir 15. The suspects shot fires and attempted to escape after getting off the vehicle, however, two suspects were killed in retaliating fire while one sustained injuries and two others managed to escape in the dark.

SHO Khattak said that the officials of the Ferozabad police station shifted the bodies and injured to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in a Chhipa ambulance. The injured was identified as Mehmood while the deceased suspects were identified as Jumma and Naimat. All the three suspects are of Afghan origin.

Police claimed to have recovered three 9mm pistols, an AK47 Kalashnikov and a midget SMG from the suspects. The investigators are checking the details of the sedan used by the suspects,

As per preliminary investigations, the killed suspect Jumma Khan was arrested from Ferozabad in 2017 for robbery. The suspects belong to an Afghan gang.

SHO Inspector Khattak on being informed about the encounter had rushed to spot in his private car. During the hot chase, Khatak's car met an accident and his leg was injured while police constable Momin Khan also sustained injuries. They were shifted to a private hospital for medical treatment.
