Robbers riding three motorcycles reportedly barged into the EP centre and held the officials hostage at gunpoint

KARACHI:

Half-a-dozen men robbed Rs1 million from into federal government's Ehsaas Programme (EP) collection centre near Children's Hospital Karachi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal block 5 on Friday morning.

The robbers riding three motorcycles reportedly barged into the EP centre around 11am and held the officials hostage at gunpoint.

The suspects snatched Rs1 million kept for the payment to deserving families at gunpoint, besides whatever cash and cell phones the officials had in their personal possession.

According to the affected EP officials, no security had been provided at the EP's collection centre despite the presence of millions of rupees there.

The absence of security gave the robbers an easy opportunity to rob the centre, said the officials. They said that one of the robbers was wearing a security guard like costume. Besides, the CCTV footage of the burglary surfaced later on the day. The police registered a case against six unidentified men and launched a probe into the matter.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi President Khrram Sherzaman has strongly condemned the robbery incident that took place at Ehsaas Programme Centre. He blamed that police was not present there for provision of security. He said that the criminal elements were wandering openly in the city.
