The Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) has issued a comprehensive traffic plan for Murree ahead of the summer vacations in schools, a spokesperson said on Thursday.

The official added that the CTP would deploy additional personnel to provide all kinds of traffic facilities to the tourists visiting Murree besides maintaining smooth traffic flow.

The CTP would also get rid of no parking in the hill station, he maintained while additional lifters and cranes will be stationed for timely provision of assistance in case of any accidents.

On the orders of Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rai Mazhar Iqbal, the duty officer of the Traffic Headquarters has formulated a comprehensive plan according to which the police will deploy additional personnel on GPO Chowk, Kashmir Point, Sunny Bank Chowk, Lari Adda, Kaldana Chowk, Jhika Gali Chowk, PC Bhurban Road, Barian Road and other spots.

Iqbal maintained that only 3,500 vehicles can be parked in Murree while 40,000 to 45,000 vehicles enter the hill station during the holidays. He added that the traffic movement gets slow due to two-way traffic and narrow roads.

He urged the tourists to park their vehicles on parking spots, avoid overtaking to prevent accidents, refrain from forming double lines and show restraint while driving.

CTO said that people should avoid taking selfies by parking on the roadsides and urged potential visitors to follow all travel instructions.

The personnel would further deploy personnel at the toll plaza in three shifts to prevent the entry of heavy traffic into the hill station at specific times, the official said. Additional patrolling officers have also been deployed to avoid the formation of double lines on roads in rush hours to prevent traffic snarl-ups, he added.
