Lawyers booked for ‘torturing’ civil judge

At least 10 lawyers entered the courtroom and tortured the judge with paperweights.

At least 10 lawyers were booked for entering the courtroom during the hearing and torturing civil judge with paperweights.

An action has been taken by Civil Judge Malik Farooq Ahmed stating that he was in the court room on June 30 at 9.30 am.

Ahmed said, “Meanwhile, Punjab Bar Council member Mian Mehran Tahir, his assistant Mian Hamad Raza Advocate, Mian Wajid Advocate and seven other unknown lawyers forcibly entered the chamber and grabbed me by the collar and slapped me and hit me with the paperweight lying on the table in the head which made my head bleed.”

Hearing the noise, the court judge Sarfraz Ahmad Khan rushed to the spot.

“Mian Mehran Tahir and others entered the chamber and beat me and spread fear and panic in the court room,” he added.

he Civil Line Police registered a caseagainst the suspects under the different provisions of CPakistan Penal Code (PPC) including 147(Punishment for rioting), 149(Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 186(Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 337(Punishment of shajjah), 353(Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 452(House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 7 Anti terrorist Act.

On the other hand, the lawyers announced to continue the protest and strike till the change of judges.

The courts were locked by lawyers after yesterday's incident and the judges informed the session judge in writing about the one-week leave in view of the current situation.
