Physically challenged to get monthly stipends

ISLAMABAD:

The Balochistan government planned to initiate a special funding programme worth Rs2 billion in the financial year 2021-22 for specially-abled people which would afford them sustainable and dignified livelihood opportunities.

Under the name of KUMAK — a Persian word which means help or assistance — the provincial government would award monthly stipend to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to encourage, support and enable them to work and become a productive part of society.

“It is our responsibility to create healthy environment for special people living in rural and urban areas of the province so that they will be able to counter economic challenges in their lives,” an official of the Balochistan government told APP.

The government has also planned to purchase special vans for the specially-abled people from the budget of the financial year to provide them transport facility, he added.

It has also been decided that the government would extend the distribution of tricycles to deserving persons with disabilities, said the official. “It is also being planned to award 400 more tricycles in the fiscal year 2021-22," he added.
