KMC approves Rs12b surplus, tax-free budget

Corporation will give priority to development schemes of public interest in next fiscal, says Karachi administrator

KARACHI:

The apex civic body of Quaid's city on Tuesday approved an almost Rs12 million tax-free surplus budget for the financial year 2021-22.

In absence of elected local government the Karachi Administrator Laeeq Ahmed approved the budget using the powers of the city council under the notification of the Sindh government.

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has approved a budget of Rs25.98 billion for the next financial year 2021-22 with a surplus of Rs11.947 million as the expenditures are estimated at about Rs25.97 billion, said a statement issued by the corporation.

"No new tax has been imposed in the budget," the statement said. Metropolitan Commissioner Danish Saeed, Finance Advisor Ghulam Murtaza Bhutto, Senior Director Coordination Khalid Khan, Senior Director Finance and Accounts Rashid Nizam, Director Budget Nasir Mahmood, Director Welfare Mahmood Baig, Director Planning Afaq Mirza and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Karachi administrator said that the corporation will give priority to development schemes of public interest in the next fiscal.

"Non-development schemes are kept to a minimum while new and ongoing projects of roads, gardens, playgrounds and sports complexes have been added to improve the infrastructure of Karachi," he added.
