Numerous celebrities called out the Prime Minister Imran Khan after he passed some controversial remarks regarding sexual violence in Pakistan.
His statements triggered a debate that swept the country’s social media, with several from the entertainment fraternity taking to their platforms to speak up against the victim-blaming.
But actor Nausheen Shah believes the premier has said nothing wrong. Taking to her Instagram Stories, she noted, “Perda kerna humaray Islam mei hai aur is mei humari he behtari hai (Covering ourselves is a part of our religion and it is for our benefit).”
The Deewar actor added, “Kero ya na kero woh ap ki merzi (whether you do it or not is your decision), I am not saying that men will be forgiven. No! Hesab tu dono ko he dena ho ga (both men and women will be answerable).”
Shah went on to clarify that she is not judging anyone since “that right belongs to God.” But that being said, “One must follow what He has said,” she continued. Concluding her post, Nausheen wrote, “Imran Khan we are proud of you.”
In an excerpt of his interview for HBO – aired on Sunday and shared on Saturday on Axios' website – interviewer Jonathan Swan asked if the PM thinks what women wear has any effect on the temptation that leads to rapes. To this, Khan replied, “If a woman is wearing very few clothes, it will have an impact on the men unless they’re robots. I mean, it is common sense.”
Confused, Swan rephrases his question. “But is it really going to provoke acts of sexual violence?” Maintaining his stance, Khan proceed elaborated, “It depends on which society you live in. If in a society, people haven’t seen that sort of thing, it will have an impact [on them]. Growing up in a society like yours, maybe it won’t impact you. This cultural imperialism… Whatever is in our culture must be acceptable to everyone else."
Earlier this week, the writer of Meray Paas Tum Ho and Sadqay Tumhare Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, who has also been dubbed a ‘rape apologist’, supported the PM, saying,“I salute PM Imran Khan over his statement. Those against him are basically against the teachings of Islam.”

Imran Khan said nothing wrong in fact reiterated what is the religious teachings and the country s culture is. He stated that very categorically and in a very strait forward way no hypocrasy or double standard. All Pakistanis should feel proud and be united behind this great and honest leader who has sacrificed a lot for his country and its poor people.
