The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has inaugurated a Chilgoza processing unit on Friday to improve the value chain of pine nuts in Sherani district of Balochistan.
The FAO established the unit funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) titled Chilgoza Project “Reversing Deforestation and Forest Degradation in High Conservation Value Chilgoza Pine Forests in Pakistan” and with the support of Forest Department.

The project aimed to support sustainable management of the pine nut ecosystem through a number of initiatives to conserve pine nut forest in the country.
Speaking on the occasion FAO Natural Resource Management (NRM) Adviser Dr Faizul Bari said the unit would conserve forest through 300 fuel-efficient stoves.
