Nadia Jamil is 'officially cancer-free!'
Nadia Jamil is cancer-free! The actor, who had been battling breast cancer since last year, took to social media and announced that her cancer tests have come clear. The Behadd star had kept her fans and peers updated with her illness on social media and had gone to the UK for treatment. She has returned home for a few months now.
"Officially cancer-free," Jamil penned in a lengthy Instagram post. "All tests cancer clear. Shukar Alhamdolillah. Thank you all for your love, prayers and support. I have some nerve damage in my feet due to the brutal chemotherapy, but I shall live to dance my way because bhangra is all in the shoulders anyways."
Sharing her gratitude, the actor thanked everyone who has been by her side throughout her struggling period. "Thank you @scaryammi.anasir for giving me a platform to work, during my financially trying times," she said, adding, "I'm also eternally grateful to all my friends and family. You know who you are. Some friends in the industry always felt by my side, Sania Saeed, Muniba Mazari, Sultana Siddiqui and Adnan Siddiqui. Thank you!"
She went on to add, "Some colleagues now megastars, would repeatedly give me a time for a small chat, then have me wait/chase them. I can only pray Allah brings respect and humility to their hearts. After all, fame and name are nothing in the scheme of the universe and we are all, in the end, buried in the same soil."
"I have, in my journey towards wellness, learned the hard way to shed those who make me feel small and irrelevant. And embrace those who show kindness and respect," the Damsa star continued, adding, "I have made new friends and family, to whom I am bound for life, not by blood, but by the solid support they offered me during cancer and isolation during the pandemic. These incredible souls are a great blessing."
Jamil shared, however, she only had herself when it all fell apart. "In the end, though, I have stood by myself. It is my breath that keeps me alive, myself that protects me."
But she shares that she knows that "the darkness will descend again. It is bound to, for what is light without darkness. But it shall also pass again. And although I shall fall again, I know I have the will to learn to stand. With each fall, I shall rise stronger and clearer. May I always be shown the path towards truth, kindness, humility, respect, love and then have the sense and will to walk it."
In August last year, Jamil had announced that she is “out of the danger zone.” In a recent interview, she shared her personal account of dealing with the ordeal and defeating the disease. She took to Twitter on April 3 last year to make the emotional announcement, saying, “Last week, I was diagnosed with cancer. In the last few days I have felt all sorts of feelings – From apprehension, fear, and unbeatably huge love to calm, acceptance, patience, overwhelming gratitude, and a deep sense of responsibility.”
