Budget to benefit govt’s ATM: PML-N

The budget was based on a lie, and did not have anything new. The indirect taxes will burden the poor, Abbasi said

KARACHI:

Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N)'s central senior Vice President and former Prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi called the federal budget as an ATM budget, which will only benefit the government's ATM.

The budget was based on a lie, and did not have anything new. The indirect taxes will burden the poor, Abbasi said.

Additional Rs1,200 billion taxes were imposed with the arrival of Imran Khan's government.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday at PML House Karsaz, Abbasi said the new budget presented for fiscal year 2021-22 does not have anything new.

Former finance minister Miftah Ismail was also present at the occasion.

"Shaukat Tareen delivered the same budget speech that he had delivered 12 years back during PPP's tenure," the former PM said adding it is the first government in the history of Pakistan that is running its affairs by lying.

"The budget is based on lie," Abbasi alleged.

Claims made by the government pertaining to revenues also proved wrong in the past.
