Jewellery shop employee held in robbery probe
The employee of a jewellery shop was found involved in a robbery committed at the store, located in the remits of Eidgah Police Station, last month, said officials on Thursday.
The shop owner had reported 190 grammes of gold jewellery, 587 kilogrammes of silver jewellery and Rs175,000 in cash stolen on May 29, said the police.
After collecting evidence from the crime scene and interrogating the store’s employees, the police found that a man named, Aqib, had joined the staff a few months ago.
During investigation, the police found Aqib suspicious and took him under custody. The police claim that he confessed to having committed the crime during interrogation.
The police managed to recover the stolen jewels on Aqib’s indication and found that he had kept the cash at his friend’s house.
However, Aqib’s friend and accomplice, , identified as Danish, managed to flee before the police arrived at his house, said the cops.
They added that raids are being conducted for his arrest.
