KARACHI:

A woman accused of suffocating her eight-year old daughter to death with a pillow and attempting to kill her two other children with rat poison was sent to jail on Tuesday on judicial remand.

The West judicial magistrate was hearing the case at Karachi City Court.

The police said that the woman has confessed to her crimes. According to police, the woman's husband would torture her after his second marriage. She was trying to get revenge from him by killing her children, said the police. She suffocated her eight-year-old daughter to death using a pillow and gave rat poison to her other two children but they managed to survive.

Report sought

Separately, a local court issued notice to the investigation officer over a petition pertaining to the registration of a case against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar for the alleged violation of the sanctity of the Quaid's Mazaar.

Hearing the case at the Karachi City Court, the East judicial magistrate sought an inquiry report from the IO and later adjourned the hearing till June 17.

The court had earlier directed the Investigation SSP to launch a probe into the matter.
