In Solidarity: Demonstration in Islamabad
“As the opposition leader, I demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Shah”: Opposition leader Bashir Ahmed Khan.
ISLAMABAD:
Activists of Gilgit Baltistan Student Federation (GBSF) too on Friday protested against Thursday’s incident.
Hundreds of activists carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the Gilgit-Baltistan government and the police assembled at D-chowk and marched up to National Press Club.
The activists condemned the killings of the father and son during what they termed was a peaceful protest and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.
“Everybody has a right to protest for his/her rights. But this so-called democratic government always tries to suppress the people’s voices,’’ said Kaleem Ullah a participant of the rally.
Addressing the rally, opposition leader in Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly, Bashir Ahmed Khan, said that the provincial government has given a free hand to the police which is a proof of its failure. “As the opposition leader, I demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Shah,” he said. “It is tragic that instead of giving compensation to the victims, the government ordered the police to open fire on them,” he added.
