‘ICT to get rehabilitation centre for drug addicts’

Minister says latest facilities will be available at rehab

The menace of drug addiction is a blight on the nation and more drug addicts are becoming visible as time passes. However, like other countries of the world, Pakistan is trying its best to help drug addicts and make their lives normal.

In this context, Minister for Narcotics Control Brig (R) Ijaz Ahmed Shah has said that rehabilitation centres are playing a key role in the reduction of drug addiction in society.

Ijaz Shah said this while chairing a meeting to discuss the establishment of a state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre in Islamabad. The meeting was arranged by Secretary for Narcotics Control Akbar Durrani, on directives of the minister.

Participants of the meeting agreed that the pilot project of the rehab centre would be completed in the federal capital and similar models would be replicated in all provinces.

During the meeting, it was also agreed that the centres would be established in accordance with the international standards.

The meeting received a detailed presentation targeting the functional models based in Turkey, Italy and Russia. The secretary directed the quarters concerned to expedite the process of land acquiring.

All participants of the meeting endorsed the suggestion and decided to start working towards setting up an international standard Rehabilitation Centre.
