NTDC installs shunt reactors on Jamshoro-Dadu transmission line
National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) has said that it has installed shunt reactors on 152km-long 500-kilovolt Dadu-Jamshoro transmission line to enhance power system stability.
In a statement, NTDC said that it was working on stability of the power transmission system in the south.
In this regard, an NTDC project delivery team of Hyderabad installed 3x22 MVAR shunt reactors (make TBEA, China) on the Dadu-Jamshoro transmission line emanating from the 500kV Dadu grid station.
The installation of shunt reactors has been completed at a cost of Rs340 million and they have been energised successfully.
An NTDC spokesman stated that the newly installed shunt reactors would help control power system voltages more efficiently and would enhance the overall power system stability on the NTDC network.
“Hence, smooth power supply will be ensured to the consumers of Sindh through the power distribution company,” the spokesperson added.
Shunt reactors are used in high voltage energy transmission systems to control the voltage during load variations.
The spokesman added that NTDC was vigorously pursuing its ongoing projects for early completion.
Shedding light on recent projects, he said, “Recently, the company has completed four more 500kV transmission line circuits for the evacuation of electricity from the power plants located in southern parts of the country.”
The transmission line circuits have been connected with the high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter station in Matiari.
Moreover, upgrading work on 130km-long 220kV Jamshoro-KDA transmission line was also completed before deadline.
The transmission line is transmitting 450 megawatts of additional power from the national grid to K-Electric, which is a big relief for the people of Karachi during the holy month of Ramazan.
Earlier, the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) has decided to promote and encourage the local industry, manufacturers and contractors in the power sector.
