Pandemic claims 16 more lives

Sindh reports over 950 fresh infections

KARACHI:

As many as 16 more persons succumbed to the coronavirus in Sindh, which reported nearly 1,000 cases on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's House, 976 coronavirus cases emerged when 14,486 samples were tested, indicating a positivity rate of 6.7 per cent.

The pandemic death toll and tally rose to 4,742 and 292,643, respectively, in Sindh with the recent fatalities and cases, said CM Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Another 586 persons also recovered from the infection, bringing the total number of infections to 269,820, added Shah.

Elaborating further, the CM apprised that 18,081 persons were under treatment for the contagion in the province.

Of these, 17,414 were in home isolation and 667 patients were admitted at different hospitals, where the condition of at least 629 patients was stated to be critical. At least 52 of the critical patients have been shifted to ventilators.

The CM said that currently 18,081 patients were under treatment, of them 17,414 were in home isolation and 667 at different hospitals.

He added that the condition of 629 patients was stated to be critical, including 52 shifted to ventilators.

Out of the 976 new cases, 441 were reported from Karachi. These included 256 from East district, 87 from South, 57 from Central, 20 from Malir, 15 from West and six from Korangi district.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad reported 168 fresh infections, Sukkur 70, Ghotki 45, Larkana 35, Khairpur 30, Kamber Shahdadkot 29, Badin 22, Matiari 20, Shikarpur 18, Mirpurkhas 17, Dadu 14, Jamshoro 12, Sujawal 11, Tando Muhammad Khan 10, Kashmore and Shaheed Benazirabad reported three each, Jacobabad two, Sanghar one and Umerkot reported as many.

Citizens were urged to follow the coronavirus-mandated standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Another frontline health worker, Dr Khurram Shehzad has lost his life on Sunday due to complications caused by Covid-19 infection. Dr Shehzad was infected with coronavirus and succumbed to the virus, Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner Fuad Ghaffar Soomro confirmed in his tweet. According to Soomro, Dr Shehzad was a Union Council Medical Officer (UCMO).
